We begin with a short introductory talk to the strength journey and then focus on breathing techniques that awaken our inner core. Use any necessary props that help you sit comfortably on the floor.
Many of our common movements are based on a system of diagonal muscular slings that connect opposite sides of the body, such as a shoulder with the opposite hip. In this class we explore those connections within different poses and in different orientations to strenghten and support movements like crawling, walking or swimming. This is a functional class with many applications in daily life.
We practise setu bandha, the bridge, in different ways to focus on strenghthening different muscles and regions of the body, while gently mobilising the spine in its entirety.
In this short class we focus on gentle movements to mobilise the neck, exploring different directions and methods of freeing up an area that often holds tension.
Here we zoom into a very specific area, namely the dorsal or upper surface of the foot and look at its fascial connection along the front of the body via the Superfical Front Line. We will play with ways of releasing tension and restoring mobility here through yoga poses and self-massage using a rubber ball. You will need 2 blocks, 2 rubber balls and a sock for this class.
Through yoga and movement we explore differences between the two sides of the body. Can a new way of sensing enhance awareness of these differences? Can we discover novel ways of working that wake up sleepy areas and engage those that tend to be switched off? This class is more like a mini-workshop that dives deeply into the topic. Please note, you will not need the inflated ball and blanket that I showed at the start of the class. I didn't get round to using them. That can be for a future class. You will just need a yoga block and a small hand towel, tea towel or dry facecloth.
This is a wonderfully energising way to start the day, mobilising the joints and building strength in the whole body.
There are different ways we can practice the classic yoga cat-cow pose by changing our awareness. We can take our attention to certain areas of the body, allowing some to lead and others to follow.
This class brings our awareness to the thoracic spine and ribs. We explore different ways of moving this area as well as breathing techniques that create space here. Feel how and from where you begin to move... You will need a strap for this class.
In this lesson we become aware of the importance of our hands and wrists in yoga and learn exercises and methods of practising poses to keep them supple, strong and healthy.
